The Sports Club ended its busy calendar of activities with another Movie Day for its members and guests. This time, the crowd was treated to the critically acclaimed and visually stunning movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Mitrajaya Scholarship
As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility effort, Mitrajaya grants scholarships every year to the needy to enroll to local and private universities throughout the country. Mitrajaya Scholarship is set up to provide funds, grants, financial assistance and support to assist the individuals to realise their academic aspirations. Corporate Social Responsibility
As a corporate citizen, Mitrajaya is committed to uphold its Corporate Social Responsibility. Over the years, we have been continuously making contributions and sponsorships to various charitable and social organisation events.
Through the auspices of our Sports Club, Mitrajaya has engaged civil society in a number of tangible ways - visits to orphanages, homes for the elderly and disabled.
The Sports Club also promotes the culture of 'Work Smart, Play Hard' amongst for our staff by organising sport activities, excursion trips and family day carnivals amongst others. The Club remains a good conduit to enhance the well-being of our employees and fostering a strong team spirit.
Movie Day Round Two!
Bowling
This year's annual bowling tournament was held for the first time at One Utama, where 13 teams of 3's competed for team and individual prizes. Winners received medals and cash prizes, while light refreshments were served during the games.
MBAM Futsal Tournament
The Sports Club sponsored this year's Futsal Champion team to participate in the annual Master Builders Association of Malaysia's Futsal Tournament, held at Samba De Futsal, Petaling Jaya. While the team faced stiff competition right from the start and could not reach the final rounds, they showed great team spirit and could keep their heads held high for the effort. Perhaps better luck next year team!
Cruise to Penang and Phuket
As part of its subsidised annual trip programme, members got a chance to join the Sports Club's first ever cruise, which departed from Port Klang, and headed towards Penang, then Phuket, before making the round trip back. It was all-expenses-paid, with great food, fantastic shows and a deck pool with an amazing view!
Badminton Tournament
This year's annual Badminton Tournament was once again held at KSL Puchong, where Sports Club members battled one another in 5 categories of singles and doubles for top badminton honours (and bragging rights!). The top 3 winners of each category each received a medal and cash prizes, and all in all it was a show of great sportsmanship and spirit!
Indoor Trampoline Park
Sports Club members experienced Malaysia's first Indoor Trampoline Park, with a fun-filled 2-hour programme hosted by a fulltime Jump Referee. After the initial safety briefing and demonstration of basic jumping techniques, members then participated in team-based activities including Trampoline Dodgeball, NBA Sharp Shooter and Foam Pit Relay. All in all it was good fun, a great work out, which finished off with a satisfying lunch spread!
White Water Rafting at Slim River
This year's White Water Rafting event was once again held at Slim River, and with the weather on their side the members that travelled 2 hours up north were not disappointed, as they listened to the commands of the raft instructor, practiced team work, and braved the Grade III river rapids! While moving in harmony among raft members was key in navigating the rapids successfully, inevitably some will fall into the waters, but with the mandatory life jackets in place, all made it back onto the raft unscathed, with only the lingering adrenaline rush as a reminder that one had just gone under!
Fire Drill at Headquarters
It was raining heavily but this did not stop our efforts in getting the HQ employees equip with fire evacuation procedure on 26 October 2018. It is important that we educate our staff on how to react during a fire emergency especially for new joiners. We also briefed staff on how to use the fire extinguisher and stretcher.
Beach Clean Up Day
Little, simple acts can make a huge impact on the health of our beaches and oceans. By simply cleaning up, we reduce the risk of animals getting trapped or tangled in trash, and lessen the chance of their homes to be destroyed by garbage or waste. In conjunction with the World Oceans Day 2018 and in line with the focus this year to prevent plastic pollution, Mitrajaya has organised a CSR, Teambuilding and Family Day. Employees together with their family members participated in our teambuilding exercise and helped to clean the beach near Bagan Lalang, Sepang. Besides achieving the objective of building team spirit and camaraderie among staff, we also managed to educate our staff and their family members on the importance of keeping environment free from thrash especially plastic.
Yoga, HIIT & Zumba Classes
The Sports and Recreational Club organises weekly Yoga, HIIT & Zumba for members at Mitrajaya Headquarters' gym, subsidised by the club, as part of its drive to promote healthier living. The Club launched a new initiative to encourage repeat attendance with the implementation of a member attendance card where they will receive a free gift for every 9th class attended!
Home for Life
Five volunteers from Mitrajaya participated in the Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM) CSR 2018 event "Home For Life" at Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Lalang, Semenyih, Selangor. During the 3-day event, we successfully built two homes for the aboriginal families; alongside with another 68 volunteers and specialists. The homes were completed timely as scheduled and handed over to recipients by Mr Foo Chek Lee, Managing Director of Pembinaan Mitrajaya Sdn Bhd and MBAM President. By participating in this home building event, the participants learnt about building community through collaboration, connection and teamwork.
1920s Gatsby Night
We returned to Four Points Hotel, Puchong to celebrate Mitrajaya's 33rd Year Anniversary with a 1920's Gatsby themed gala dinner. Staff dressed to the famous 1920s era were treated to staff performances, lucky draws, a best dressed contest judged by our very own "Council Of Youngers", a sumptuous buffet spread and great company, capping off the night with a dance till late!
Company Trip to Rawa Island
The Sports and Recreational Club organised a trip to another island in the East coast of the Peninsula, this time to Rawa Island, off the coast of Mersing, Johor. Members enjoyed 3 days of pristine beaches, crystal clear water, snorkeling among marine life right at the beach, and some even tried their hands on kayaking. The time off far away from the city bustle provided the perfect environment to relax and rejuvenate.
Mitrajaya Idol 2018
The Sports & Recreational Club's very own Karaoke competition was held this year at Neway One Utama. Participants belted out songs from a wide range of genres, wooing fellow club members to vote for their favourite to be crowned Mitrajaya Idol. The top 3 contestants for Male and Female were awarded cash prizes, while audiences stayed on after competition enjoying a free flow of food and drinks and free-for-all karaoke till dawn!
A Visit to the Orphanage
Even though the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations have passed, Mitrajaya successfully organised a CSR event at Rumah Anak Yatim Limpahan Kasih in Kampung Sri Aman, Puchong on 27th July 2018. The main goal was to bring cheer to the orphans and offer them support and encouragement and at the same time, instill positive culture among the employees to give back to the society. Both Mitrajaya and its staff provided monetary contribution and some assistance for their daily needs. The Orphanage organised some interesting activities such as horse riding and archery for our employees. The orphans also performed to the audience during dinner. Further support was provided by the Mitrajaya employees when they purchased doughnuts baked by the Orphanage.
Futsal Tournament
Our annual Futsal Tournament was once again held KSL Sport Puchong, where 15 teams vied for top Futsal honours among fellow Sports Club members. Cash prizes were awarded to the top 3 mens and womens teams.
Tandem Paragliding
The Sports Club organised the first Extreme Sports event for the year at Jugra, Selangor, where for the first time members got a chance to tandem paraglide. And when the winds came, members took to the sky in tandem with a qualified instructor, facing their fear of heights head on with a rush of adrenaline!
Hari Raya Get Together Lunch
Mitrajaya held a lunch gathering at the Headquarters to celebrate the Hari Raya festivities where employees were treated to delectable local delicacies. The event was made merrier by an impromptu performance by two talented employees singing traditional Hari Raya tunes to entertain the crowd. A cake cutting ceremony was also held to celebrate the birthdays of employees born in the month of July and August.
Gotong Royong and Buka Puasa with the Elderly
Approximately 40 employees participated in a gotong-royong activity at Pusat Jagaan dan Rawatan Orang Tua Al-Ikhlas at Pulau Meranti. The team was divided into 5 groups to carrying out mopping, sweeping, cleaning up the garden, wiping fans and window cleaning tasks. The event ended with a Berbuka Puasa dinner with the old folks. The purpose of the visit was to clean the Home and entertain the residents before the Hari Raya celebrations. The Company also presented a cash donation to the Home and distributed Duit Raya to the old folks.
First Aid & CPR Training
Mitrajaya organised a 2-day First aid & CPR training for its employees. A total of 25 personnel attended this training which was conducted by St John Ambulance Malaysia Kawasan Selangor Selatan. The purpose of the training is to teach the participants how to provide quick medical treatment and how to control critical medical situations within the golden time until the arrival of competent rescue professionals. On the 1st day of the training, the trainers, Mr Logan and Mr Vincent shared some theories and knowledge on the different type of injuries and emergency cases. On the 2nd day, practical training which included CPR, management of choking, dressing & bandages techniques and the way of handling and transportation of the injured were conducted. At the end of the session, all participants were required to complete the theory and practical examination in order to be certified as a qualified first aider.
Engineer & Supervisor Training by Group Managing Director
The Company's emphasis on staff training is not only to meet the business requirements, but also to provide timely and quality services to all its customers and ensure the highest return of value to all its shareholders. The Group Managing Director, Mr. Tan Eng Piow has personally on 12th and 19th May 2018, conducted a half a day training for the management staff, Engineers & Supervisors. More than 150 employees attended each of the training session. Topics covered included good housekeeping practices and the need to change, personal responsibility and commitment to the job. On the same occasion, the Deputy Managing Director of Pembinaan Mitrajaya Sdn Bhd, Mr. Bibhuti Nath Jha shared some development of the current industry challenges including the Company's challenges for the year ahead.
Feeding the Homeless
Mitrajaya collaborated with Kechara Soup Kitchen to distribute food to the homeless. With the kind guidance from the members of Kechara, 20 of the Mitrajaya staff went around Pudu, Chow Kit, Brickfields, Petaling Street, Pasar Seni and few other places around Kuala Lumpur to distribute food. There are many homeless people who need help and require food, clothing and medicine. This event helped the participating staff to appreciate what they have now as well as raise their awareness on the existence of such unlucky people. Hopefully Malaysians can change their perception on the homeless for being lazy and doesn't want to work. Each of them has a different life story and we should help this unfortunate community.
Movie Day!
This year, the Sports and Recreational Club kicked off the fiscal year with a Movie Day. It was a full house in the 112-seat capacity cinema hall, where members and their guests watched the highly anticipated blockbuster "Avengers : Infinity Wars".
Mega Safety Tool Box 2018
Pembinaan Mitrajaya Sdn. Bhd. participated in Mega OSH ToolBox 2018 which was organised by the Malaysia Society of Occupational Safety and Health (MSOSH). This Mega OSH Toolbox was conducted simultaneously at 800 premises throughout Malaysia on 2nd May 2018 in conjunction with World OSH Day and the event was the first of its kind in Malaysia. The event attracted a total of 52,494 participants and was awarded the 'Largest Simultaneous Safety Briefing' in Malaysia Book of Records 2018.
Company Trip to Krabi
The Sports and Recreational Club organised a repeat of last year's members' getaway to Krabi, due to popular demand, which included the recipient of the grand prize of last year's Annual Dinner lucky draw! Members spent 3 days soaking in the sea breeze, tranquil waters, and amazing Thai food, not to forget the (ahem) occasional trinket shopping!
Creating a Brighter Tomorrow
Mitrajaya continues to have an active role in contributing positively to the society. On 20 April 2018, Mitrajaya donated a total of RM 12,000 to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Taman Bukit Maluri, Kepong. A cheque presentation ceremony was held at the school whereby Ms. Kok Siew Leng, our Sales & Marketing Director presented the cheque to Puan Hajah Zainon, the school's principal. The objective of this donation is mainly to provide financial assistance to the school to improve the classroom facilities. Part of the donation will also be channelled to the less fortunate students. During the principal's speech, she expressed her gratitude to Mitrajaya and said that the school has been trying to find sponsors to transform the classrooms in order to create better, conducive and well-maintained classrooms for the students. This makes a positive difference to the student's learning.
Celebrating Chinese New Year
Mitrajaya organised a get-together lunch for all employees at its Headquaters to celebrate Chinese New Year. The event started off with a lion dance performance followed by a scrumptious buffet lunch. We also took the opportunity to celebrate the birthdays of the employees born in the month of January and February with a cake cutting ceremony.
Mitrajaya Offers Hope During CNY
A total of 35 employees paid a visit to the Rumah Hope which is located at Paramount Garden, Petaling Jaya. Rumah Hope started from 1994 as a sanctuary for the abused, neglected and under-privileged children between the ages of 5-17. Currently, they have 46 children staying there. The employees played games with the children, organised quiz activities and had dinner together with the children. During this visit, we have donated daily necessities and cash to Rumah Hope. In conjunction with the Chinese New Year, we also distributed angpow to the children and gave them hampers.
Celebrating CNY with the Needy and Elderly
Mitrajaya organised the first CSR activity for the year during the 2018 Chinese New Year. They visited Persatuan Kebajikan Ci Hang-Chempaka Selangor, an old folks' home. A total of 15 employees volunteered for this activity. The objective was to bring joy to the residents of the home and give care to the elderly. Our employees together with the old folks played games during the interaction session. They also distributed ang pow to the residents and caretakers. The Company donated a sum of more than RM 2,500 to the home aiming to help them in their maintenance.
